MAYBELLINE BOLD MATTE LIPSTICK

MAYBELLINE BOLD MATTE LIPSTICK
Scouring through the make-up aisle in Watsons and Mannings (Equivalent to our Boots, Superdrug/drugstores) I was crazily searching for the Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte  Lip color (20 shades) which have been all the hype over YouTube and the blogosphere world.  The UK still does not stock this and it's been bought out for a while now, so I am extremely annoyed! (Still waiting for day!)  So when I stumbled upon the Maybelline BoldMatte Lipstick , I could not wait to get my hands on it. This retails for $98 hkd which is approxiamtely £8.

The Bold Matte collection comes in  5 shades:  MAT 1, MAT 2, MAT 3, MAT 4 and MAT 5 they do not have any dedicated colour names for them which is a not that exciting. The lipsticks are described as: ultra- hydrating, contains pure-colour- technology creating a vibrant colour and contains honey nectar which deeply moisturises your lips.

The smell of the lipstick reminds me of plastic, with the ingredients containing honey nectar I was expecting a nicer scent. If you have the original Maybelline Colorsensational, they contain a sweet scent and does not have that plastic smell, so I much prefer them for the smell.

After swatching the shade collection on the back of my hand, I decided on MAT 2 and MAT 4. MAT 2 is a vibrant pink shade and MAT 4 is a red. The lipstick has a velvety texture -  glides onto the lips smoothly and is very moisturising. I wouldn't class this as a matte lipstick as there is not a matte finish but has a sheen, which stains yours lips so it wears off nicely.

MAT 2 is a pink, but when applied onto my lips, it almost seems neon. I have pigmented lips, therefore lipsticks on me does not seem the same.

MAT 4 - Is a striking red, it almost washes out the warmth in my face and body. I chose this colour because you can't go wrong with a classic red.

Overall
For this lipstick, the colour payoff is amazing, however I wouldn't say it is a matte lipstick, it does have a sheen, whether swatched on my hand or on my lips. I would try a lip primer next time or even slightly foundation my lips to see if there is any difference in colour. The lipstick itself is extremely velvety and moisturising due to the formula but transfers on everything your lips touch.

As for the smell, the plastic scent does not linger throughout the day as mentioned before.  One of the disappointment would have to be the shade range, I really wanted a nude shade but the collection does not offer one, I would like to pick up the orange shade next time as the colour payoff is amazing.

Would you be tempted to buy this? Until next time!

  1. This definitely doesn't look matte on - however they are super pretty on and I like the plasticy packaging (sort of like the Revlon butters, I think?) It's such a shame I can't get hold of these in the UK!
