Shu Uemura Unlimited Breathable Lasting Foundation Review | Oily Combination skin

Anyone else is a sucker for packaging? I fell in love with the simplicity of Shu Uemura's Unlimited Foundation that has frosted glass and simple black detail. What intrigued me the most was how it is specially formulated for Asian skin tones, I've had great difficulty in the past getting a good match from the foundation that does not leave me looking like an orange.

This claims to be a long-wearing liquid foundation that lasts for up to 16 hours with a semi-matte finish. It is ultra-light and allows the skin to breathe, even though humid conditions, as I live in Hong Kong this is perfect for me. The foundation is infused with rice extract to help with dullness and keep foundation pigments to colour-true. It contains SPF24 and is available in 24 shades.

Skincare and coverage

So I tested this foundation for two weeks, experimenting with setting sprays with and without and different skincare products and this is what I discovered.

As a lover of Vitamin C, many foundations tend to turn darker when used underneath and this is the same case with the unlimited foundation, so I do avoid using Vitamin C in the morning and I get the perfect match.

I have the shade 574 which has a neutral undertone and is within the light range. The foundation does feel lightweight on the skin and is a buildable light to medium coverage. I use two pumps of foundation to fully cover redness and go in with concealer to cover blemishes. It's not totally skin like since you can tell you are wearing foundation but it does not look heavy or cakey.

Skin type and setting sprays

If you have dry skin this semi-matte finish will cling to those areas, it's not noticeable unless you look closely at your skin. If you have combination skin (oily t-zone here) you do need to set with powder to enhance wear time.

Because of the lightweight feel, I've been enjoying wearing this foundation with liquid-based contour and blush since it gives a smooth and glowing finish and I avoid setting my base with powder since it is a semi-matte finish and does not feel overly tacky.

When I use the Mario Badescu Facial Spray to set my face, my oily t-zone stays put for another hour, but the rest of my foundation has that same powdery finish and does not separate. When I use the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist, my whole face starts looking shiny at the 5-hour mark but I just love the GR mist so much. I do like to blot my oily t-zone when it starts looking a bit too oily and my base does not come off in patches.

Overall

I do like this foundation since I did not have a medium coverage foundation in my collection. I enjoy how lightweight this foundation feels on the skin and it has made me enjoy using other liquid makeup more. I actually thought this would be more full coverage but it looks nice at the end of a day wearing it for 10 hours.

I like this as my daily foundation and if you are interested to try it I would give it a go. One of the things I discovered is that it is face mask proof. My face mask tends to leave little marks on my face and rubs where it touches my skin mainly where my cheeks are. This foundation stays put and my makeup remains the same.
