Salicylic acid is a BHA (beta hydroxy acid) that helps reduce acne by exfoliating the skin keeping pores clear, helping shed dead skin cells and decreasing redness and inflammation. Having sensitive and acne-prone skin I am always on the lookout to try products that help prevent breakouts. The Cosrx Daily Salicylic Acid Cleanser has been in my basket for a long time and it was finally time to put it to the test.
The Cosrx Daily Salicylic Acid Cleanser claims to remove impurities and excesses sebum helping fight blemishes leaving you with soft and smooth skin without it feeling stripped. Containing both salicylic acid and tea tree oil to buff away dead skin cells, blackheads, whiteheads and other impurities leads to fewer breakouts and helps fade blemishes and scars in the long run.. It is suitable for sensitive skin and is a foaming cleanser. It is hypoallergenic, vegan-friendly, cruelty-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free and alcohol-free.
This cleanser is a second step cleanser. It does not remove your makeup but further cleansers your pores. When you first open the cleanser you can smell the citrus fragrance which for some skin types it may irritate, the product comes out white and a little pea-sized product is enough for both face and neck as it foams up quite a bit. I massage the foam in a circular motion all over my face and neck and then remove with a damp towel. It leaves my skin soft but almost too squeaky clean and a little drying. If you have sensitive skin you might want to work it up to a daily cleanser rather than diving straight in 7 days a week.
I read many reviews and some people had a purge period. Sadly I was one of these people, with BHA is draws up all the impurities to the surface and while having sensitive acne-prone skin and a cystic acne sufferer in the past I broke out a lot but I knew it was the cleanser causing this. My purge period lasted about 3 weeks and I broke out badly on my chin, I had a minimal breakout on my cheeks and forehead. My spots were tender and they hurt when I moved. I used the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion and Buffering Lotion to combat the breakouts.
I have used the cleanser for 5 weeks now, while my spots have almost gone I have been left with dark marks since I suffer from hyperpigmentation and there is still a long battle to fade those. While I have sensitive skin using this as a daily cleanser has not caused dryness but I do quickly apply my skincare after. I have found that I am less oily especially at my t-zone which I appreciate.
Overall the reason I wanted to try this cleanser was to reduce breakouts but still after my purge period now I’m not sure I will recommend. My pigmentation takes a long time to fade and it’s difficult to cover up. I've always wanted to try a salicylic acid cleanser but I did not expect myself to break out this bad. It's easy to use but if you are sensitive to foam cleansers, scents and even have dry skin I wouldn't recommend this. When I say it leaves your skin squeaky clean sometimes it is a bad thing as it's stripping all moisture from your skin. I will be reporting back or further update on my Instagram.
UPDATE: I stopped using this cleanser after 6 weeks as I had painful breakouts on my cheeks that kept recurring.
Shame it didn't work out for you, sounded so promising x
ReplyDeleteI know! The purging period makes me question the product x
DeleteOh dear! Sorry this wasn't it for you!

I know! Such a shame
DeleteOh no, that is a pity! I have had a few breakouts on my jaw recently, without any reason though.
ReplyDeleteI was really intrigued as I love salicylic acid products but I have really dry skin at the moment so it sounds like it's probably not for me either! x
