THE ORDINARY HIGH-ADHERENCE SILICONE PRIMER REVIEW

I went ahead and purchased The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer with my Asos order, this was something that I wanted to try on my list from The Ordinary, an affordable skincare brand which has now launched foundations. This product claims to blur, smooth and prime.

A little about my skin history, I have combination skin, oily at the t-zone and also can be dry depending on the weather. I have larger pores on my cheeks and a few dark spots on my skin from spots and scars which are mainly my problem area.

The primer comes out as white cream texture and smells a bit like E45. This is a silicone primer and is not feel as heavy as the Benefit Porefessional. I find that this sometimes balls up around my temple area but applies smoothly on the rest of my skin as a primer on top of my moisturiser. It claims to be a mattifying primer but it is not at all mattifying, my skin has a slight sheen after I apply but it works perfectly against my current foundation (EX1 Invisiwear Liquid Foundation). It claims to blur and smooth your skin and I don't notice until my base is fully applied that my pores become significantly smaller and indeed has that blurring effect.

One of the Cons about this is if you have oily skin like me I would recommend only applying this to the areas you need on your face.I usually use this all over using a small amount and I become and look so greasy on my t-zone even though this is marketed/target at us oily/combination skin types. I notice that my foundation always fades on my forehead when using this primer and my concealer fades around my chin. I also noticed a slight separation of foundation on my forehead and chin and if I touch my face my foundation comes off and this does not happen when I use the Nivea Shave Balm as a primer.

When I remove my makeup with an oil cleanser I notice that balling up effect that I had when I applied the primer to my face. I'm not concerned with this since I double cleanse but I feel like a makeup wipe will not get rid of that silicone on your skin which then you may break out on since you are blocking your pores.

Overall would I recommend this primer? Yes, and No, I want to continue to use this for my cheeks where I have larger pores since it smooths my skin out and because it is very affordable. It also makes my highlighter look really good but I wouldn't touch your face since your makeup will rub off. If you have oily skin like me I would recommend taking blotting paper with you everywhere since I got shiny in 3-4 hours. I've used this for a couple of weeks now and I am still in two minds. If you have used it let me know how you got on!

Until next time!

  2. I have similar skin like what you are describing and I tend to touch my face A LOT during the day. It seems like this primer wouldn't work for me at all.. Too bad...

    Thanks for the review!

  3. I have the exact same skin type as you by the sounds of it, and I've been wanting to try this primer for ages!

  4. I haven't used this before but I think from reading this I'll take a pass. I think one of the things that's helped my makeup stay on a lot longer was actually changing up my moisturiser to a less oily one!
