Dr. Althea Skin Balancing UV Essence Review | Acne Prone Skin

When it comes to sunscreen I'm extremely cautious of what products to try as I have broken out in the past. The Dr. Althea Skin Balancing UV Essence is a daily SPF moisturiser created for acne prone and sensitive skin and I was quick to add this to my basket despite not finding many reviews.
The Skin Balancing Essence contains SPF 50 and is a mineral sunscreen with non-nano particles that protects against UV rays without blocking your pores. It claims to be non-sticky, flashback-proof and contains anti aging and brightening ingredients. As mentioned before it is suitable for sensitive and acne-prone skin types and also being waterproof.

There are three key ingredients; Birch Sap and Glacier Water and Centella Asiatica Extract.

Birch Sap provides hydration and contains anti-inflammatory properties which makes it great for sensitive skin.

Glacier Water contains reactive oxygen, soothing and conditioning your skin and also a cooling effect.

Centella Asiatica Extract contains antioxidants such as madecassoside which has soothing and anti-inflammatory benefits great for acne prone skin. Centella also boosts collagen production.

Product & Packaging
There is 50ml of product and it comes in a easy squeeze tube which reminds me of a hand cream. The packaging is super simple and minimalistic and I love having it on my vanity.

Formula and Wear
This SPF comes out white in the tube and does have a slight scent but that does not linger through the day. When you rub the SPF moisturiser into your skin it looks slightly white but then disappears and sinks into your skin. It does not feel sticky but your skin will look super moisturised and glowy.

The SPF has made my foundation separate because of it's moisturising properties but once you use a face primer everything looks perfect again.

Overall
I have not suffered from any breakouts which is the most important factor for me and it does really help soothe my skin. Even though fragrance can be an irritant it has not had any harmful effect to my skin. I love how it moisturises my skin while providing SPF protection and I will continue to purchase this in the future.

Will you be trying this SPF?

I hope you've enjoyed this review and found it helpful.

  1. This SPF sounds good, expect that it makes your foundation pill, as I don't really use primers much

  4. I've recently bought myself some SPF but really prefer it when foundations already have it in as they tend to break me out so badly!

  5. This sounds quite nice, I am testing out a number of SPF's at the moment and it is crazy how different some of them perform.
