LA GIRL PRO MATTE FOUNDATION REVIEW | OILY COMBINATION SKIN

I am an avid fan of the LA Girl Pro Coverage Illuminating Foundation and I'm on my 4th or even 5th bottle of that good stuff and they came out with the matte version which I got my hands on immediately. It's been a couple of weeks since I took a bit of a blogging break but here is my review.

This foundation like its sister is very affordable at the £10 mark and claims to be long wearing, has a buildable medium to full coverage and has a smooth suede finish. In terms of packaging, it comes in a frosted glass bottle and contains 30ml of product. So it actually has a bit more product compared to the pro coverage and is heavier in weight. It has a pump but it only brings up a tiny blob of product unlike the pro coverage which gives you a full pump for your entire face.
Let's talk about colour, LA Girl does not do the best of shades with only 14 shades and I do find it difficult to find a good shade match since it is different compared to pro coverage which I am in the shade fair which is for light skin tones with warm/yellow undertones. I picked the shade Beige but I wish I picked Bisque since it dries darker on your skin hence making me look orange (not a good luck).
I've tested this foundation out a few times; with a brush, with a sponge, with a white mixer, without SPF, and different moisturisers, I really wanted to give this a fair chance. With a brush (above)I found that it clung to certain areas of my face, I thought using a brush would give me a better coverage but it does not, it doesn't help cover my blemishes either and even when I built it up it was just patchy. The darker orange parts are where the foundation would not blend and for some reason it did not work on the bottom bit of my jaw.
When I used a damp sponge (above), it was a lot smoother but still, the foundation clung to certain areas of my face, that being on parts of my cheeks, temples and above my brows. I have normal skin on my cheeks and it just didn't sit well. I used about 3 pumps of my face and it still didn't give me a even coverage.

Because the foundation is a little darker, I used the pro coverage white mixer to help lighten the foundation, I found that it gave me better coverage probably because of the mixer but you can still see I had a lot of makeup on my skin and it just sank into any fine lines I had and around the crevices of my nose.

Sometimes I find that SPF and different moisturisers affect how the foundation wears so I tried without using an SPF and I was still a greasy mess, a different moisturiser (Neutrogena) still the same patchy mess and Origins Ginzing which was still patchy.

I feel like I am really giving up on this foundation haha. The good thing is that you don't need to set this foundation because it is truly a smooth suede finish, but it just doesn't last, I find that you need to powder your face throughout the day and I'm not a person to carry around makeup with me.

Overall the price of this foundation is great for £10, the matte finish reminds me of the Fenty Soft Matte Foundation in terms of finish but longevity and everything else is not the same haha, I didn't find the formula easy to build up and for my skin type, it just does not work for me. I don't like looking like a greasy ball at the end of the day. I honestly find it a hassle to use and I'm going to stick with my pro coverage and get rid of this one.

Hope you found this review helpful!

Until next time!

  6. I read a lot of good reviews about this foundation but I guess it's not always working the same with everyone. At least is only £10!

  8. Haven't heard of this foundation, nice to read an honest review and hear that you didn't like it! I've always found it hard to find the right foundation for my dry skin but Double Wear by Estee Lauder has really been working well for me! xx
