Triple cleansing

Since sharing my 10 Step Skincare routine, removing my makeup has been a really important step, with the number of layers of liquids, powders and cream we apply on our skin we need to make sure we remove everything. There is double cleansing and triple cleansing.

Double cleansing has been around for a long time mainly using an oil/balm followed by micellar water. I don't use micellar water as I feel like it does not clean my skin well enough and leaves my skin feeling a bit parched. My double cleansing consisted of cleansing oil and a hot cloth cleanser until I incorporated a gel cleanser which started my triple cleansing back in February 2017 when I reviewed this range from Garnier.

I have been triple cleansing for the longest time and I swap out some of my products out to try new ones. These are the three products that I have been using consistently and keep going back to :
- The Body Shop Cleansing Oil
- Garnier Skin Active Sensitive Anti- Blemish Soap-Free Gel Wash
- Superdrug Radiant Hot Cloth Cleanser

Using a cleansing oil helps break down the first layer of what I call heavy makeup. With a cleansing oil, you have two steps, one massaging the oil directly onto your skin and the other step adding water creating a milky texture that breaks down the makeup, which you then wash away. Because of the oil, your skin will not be stripped of moisture but also you are just removing the make-up on the surface of the skin which does not remove makeup that has sunk into your pores or the sunscreen you applied underneath.

My second step contains a gel cleanser, I stray away from foam cleanser as it strips down my skin and leaves it quite sensitive. With a gel cleanser, it's gentle enough to massage in and with the slight bubbles that foam it further cleanses your pores. I use an acne helping gel cleanser that helps reduce blemishes. When I feel like it needs a thorough cleanse I go in with my Foreo device that pulses, the vibration helps work the product into your skin and gives it a good massage improving blood circulation.

My last step includes a little daily exfoliation. I use a hot cloth cleanser, most specifically the radiant hot cloth cleanser that makes my skin feel hydrated, clean and definitely more glowy. Because you are using heat, the warm water opens up your pores and helps remove the last traces of grime with a muslin cloth. I have been using the same hot cloth cleanser for 3 years now and again I use the Foreo to further help with its abilities.

Triple Cleansing may not be for everyone but I really do enjoy the fresh feeling I achieve at the end knowing I have removed my sunscreen, primers and any other liquids and powders. Even though it increases your cleansing time it's really important to look after your skin - time does not go backwards.

As a person who is obsessed, here is a reminder:
-  to remove the makeup on your neck and ears too
- always start with fresh skin before you apply any skincare products
- sunscreen is a must

Hope you enjoyed this post!

Until next time!

  2. It's funny because I never thought of myself as triple cleansing, but I usually use two cleansers during my shower and then micellar water and toner when I get out so technically I already do it?!
