LA GIRL PRO COVERAGE HD HIGH DEFINITION LONG WEAR ILLUMINATING FOUNDATION REVIEW + SWATCHES | UK

I love trying new foundations and when I found out there was an affordable one on the market, I immediately bought it. This is the L.A Girl Pro Coverage HD High Definition Long Wear Illuminating Foundation, I purchased this off  BeautyBay and selected the shade Fair.

PRODUCT

This is marketed as an HD foundation which claims to be weightless, hydrating, long-wearing, illuminating and has medium to full coverage. It is also paraben free and has 28ml worth of product inside. It can only be used for 6 months after opening.

PACKAGING

This foundation has been compared to the Make Up Forever Foundation as they have a similar shape except for the silver ring around the MUFE one. The colour is easy to see through the transparent bottle and comes with a pump. The bottle is made out of plastic but is durable and looks pretty.

SHADE SELECTION

There are 15 shades in the collection and also a White which is a lightener to mix your foundation to find the perfect shade. I don't think the shade selection is amazing but if lightening some of the original shade will help, I do recommend purchasing it. I am normally a W3 in Loreal Pairs True Match Foundation and NC25 in Mac but I am very pale right now so probably an NC20.

MY SKIN

I have combination skin, that being an oily t-zone especially forehead and around the nose area but my skin can also be dry due to weather changes. I break out easily and have heavy pigmentation from scars.

MY VERDICT

This has been my most reached for the foundation since it arrived on my doorstep. It is an 'illuminating' foundation, therefore, it is dewy and you need to set it with a powder no matter your skin type as it is sticky when you finish applying the foundation onto your skin. If you are an oily skin girl like me you need a mattifying cream/primer as a base to help control the 'dewiness'. The foundation is has a runny formula and has an 'herbal/plastic' scent to it which wears off.

The best application method is by pumping the product on the back of your hand and dab the product onto your face with your fingers. I find that I only need one and a half pump of product which is enough for my entire face and spot concealing certain areas especially my cheek and chin area to give it more coverage.  I tend to use a beauty blender rather than a brush since my skin is feeling quite sensitive especially with the cold and it seems to be more flawless.

I wouldn't say this a full coverage foundation and is only medium at max since I don't think it's very buildable when I try to spot conceal, there is only so much foundation you want to apply onto your face before it feels cakey - so I recommend using a concealer to cover blemishes.

The colour is spot on for my skin right now which tells you how pale I am considering this is the second shade in the range (fair). It is suitable for people who have a yellow undertone like me as it is not too orange or too pink which I find in other foundations.

The longevity of the foundation is great but I do need to blot around my t-zone area especially if I don't apply a mattifying primer/cream after 5/6 hours. I have noticed that it starts to separate on my forehead and around the nose area after 9 hours of wear since those are my problem areas - it is not noticeable unless you are at an extreme close up with somebody or the mirror. At the end of a working day, my face noticeably looks dewy and healthy but not greasy.

Overall I really enjoy this foundation, I think it's great for this cold weather, I will continue to purchase this in the future since I really like the finish. I might pick up the shade White to use as a lightener for future foundations but it only last for 6 months which I think is due to the antioxidants to keep your skin hydrated so there is some disadvantage. If you are in two minds about this foundation, go ahead and try it, it's only £9.

If you have any more question feel free to leave them below and I'll answer them as quickly as possible! That is all for this post, I hope you've enjoyed it and found it helpful.

Until next time!

  1. I've heard this is a great foundation for those with dry skin, although my nose area has started to get more oily, I'm worried to try this foundation as I hate re-powdering! I also don't know what shdae to get online because it's so difficult to buy foundation online without trying it in store! Although I'm definitely thinking about picking this up as it's only £9 which is an amazing bargain for such a good foundation! xx

  4. Hello. Is fair the shade you chose being a NC20 right now? What shade do you think would go with a NC 25-30?
Thanks a lot for this review!

    1. Hi coralie,

I am using the shade fair right now, I don't use MAC since it breaks me out so I can't recommend a shade for NC25-30 since the shades differs in undertones. If there is a Youtuber that is similar to your skin tone and they have used the foundation - I would go off that. It is really difficult to shade match yourself online x

    2. The next shade up after Fair which still has a yellow undertone is Nude Beige, which however is more an NC37. You can always purchase the white foundation to lighten it up though. Hope it helps!

  5. Why wouldn't you post even one picture of it on your face considering it is a blog specifically for a foundation review? To show a swatch on your arm (which is a different color, texture and type of skin than your face) just doesn't make sense.

    1. Hi,

Didn't post a photo due to bad lighting since it is winter but I do have a couple of selfies on my phone if you want to see them. And I haven't had any problems before with swatches on my arm before just to show the consistency. My foundation always matches my neck since it catches the sun most. I appreciate the feedback though! And I'll link a photo when I post it on Instagram X
