Best in makeup 2018

A round-up of my favourite discoveries in 2018, this is just makeup I have discovered last year.

FOUNDATIONS

Being an avid foundation tester, I have trailed with a few this year, with these ones being my top picks:

Fenty Soft Matte Filt'r Foundation, this is a full coverage matte foundation which is on the drier side of formula compared to the others, it controls oils very well, has no flashback and lasts for an entire day, the shade range has been extended to 50 shades along with concealers that are launching soon - for any special events or night looks this is my go to. I have a comparison review here.

Wet 'n' Wild Photo Focus Foundation, a medium to full coverage foundation, it has a runny liquid formula and also has no flashback, it does not fully cover blemishes but gives me a flawless finish once it sets, I use this during the day and initially, it does have a slight scent. This is only available in 6 shades in the UK.

NYX Can't Stop Won't Stop Foundation, a full coverage foundation that lasts a long time which I have trialled for a maximum of 17 hours, it helps controls oils and is very affordable for a drugstore foundation. I use this day and night but has not tried out its claim for waterproof. I have reviewed this here and has been one of my go-to since I picked this up in November.

April Skin Magic Snow BB Cushion, a go-to when you are after a quick and easy base, this is a good buildable medium to full coverage, it is compact enough to carry around if you are wanting to touch up. This gives you an overall healthy glow and is one of the best BB Cushions I have tested so far. I have a full review here.

PRIMER

Primark Primer Water, I have done a 'dupe' post comparing this to the Smashbox Photofinish Primer Water, it gives the skin a good base to work with and with its affordability I keep going back to it time and time again. It helps hydrate your skin and improves the longevity of your base.

Wet N Wild Photo Focus Matte Primer, a gel consistency primer that helps smooth my pores over while slightly mattifying my skin controlling my oily base, it works with any foundation that I have used, it does have a slight scent that wears off but it overall increases the longevity of weartime.

EYESHADOW PALETTES

ABH Norvina, a palette filled with purple, neutral and golden hues. Its metallic shades have a beautiful shimmery consistency. I overall love the tones in this palette which allows me to experiment more with cooler undertones. Favourite shades are Rose Gold, Summer and Love.

ABH Soft Glam, the sister version of Modern Renaissance (Which I wasn't a fan of) it has lighter more everyday shades that can transit from morning to night look in one palette. My favourites hades from the palette are Orange Soda, Rose Pink and Bronze.

Marc Jacobs Eye-conic Scandalust, one of the recent additions to my eyeshadow family, it reminds me of the ABH Modern Renaissance but I much prefer the formula of these shadows, they are easy to blend and the shades go perfectly together.

POWDERS

Wet 'n' Wild ColorIcon Blush, although I am not a fan of the packaging since it has one of those applicators inside that you would never use, this is a beautiful buildable blush. Apri-Cot in the Middle is more on the shimmery side and was one of my go-to for summer days. It is a beautiful golden orange shade.

Jouer Adore Blush Duo, the packaging of this gives me the emoji heart eyes, it is a truly stunning and sleek design, it contains a huge mirror inside and has beautiful nude shades that can be used together too. One side is matte being the brighter side of a nude pink and the other a light nude glow.

Proto-col Baked Mineral Foundation, one of my favourite base products, this is a mineral foundation but I use this as a setting powder, I am on the paler side and I use Dover as the initial bronzer/base for any powders that I apply on top, it gives my skin better coverage and is one of those products that I carry around with me. I wish they will come out with a lighter shade that will be perfect to highlight.

Wet 'n' Wild Megaglo, picking up both the shades Blossom Glow and Precious Petals, they are smooth and buildable. Blossom Glow has a silver/lilac reflect and Precious Petals a pink champagne glow, they are amazing quality especially for the price and if you have these you probably will understand the hype.

LIPS

Charlotte Tilbury Pillowtalk lip liner and lipstick, after losing my lipliner I knew I had to replace it along with the duo that goes hand in hand. These are such beautiful everyday pink. The lip liner prolongs whatever lip products you apply on top and has hydrating plumping effects that create that overlined look.

Wet 'n' Wild Megalast Lip Colour in Bare It All, truly a go to that adds colour to my complexion, it is a matte formula and is opaque and comfortable to wear throughout the day. Bare It All is a Corally Pink Nude and has a slight honey scent that wears off. The packaging is not the greatest but the formula and longevity really make it stand out. They have a huge range of 30 colours.

Ultra Blotted Lip Zuma from Colourpop Cosmetics, this year I think I have been more chill about Colourpop Cosmetics and really only purchasing the items that I truly want to try out. The UBL formula acts like a tint and has a whipped texture when you initially apply it, it is transfer proof and if you find it a little drying you can easily apply a balm or gloss on top. Zuma is one of those my lips but better colours.

Guerlain Chic Pink, as I have been reaching for lighter pinks for the hotter weather in HK, Chic Pink is like a nice balm that can be easily reapplied throughout the day and gives your lips a lovely juicy look and a pop of colour.

Sephora Lips Stories in Oui!, another most reached for pinks that I have featured on my Instagram, it is a beautiful corally pink in a satin finish, it glides and melts onto your lips. For everyday and simple look I reach for this.

Revolution Vow, one of the palest shades that I have in my collection, it has almost a grey undertone and is a very pale peachy nude. Incredibly opaque and matte finish, the packaging reminds me a lot of the Charlotte Tilbury Lipsticks. If I am wearing a bold eye look this is what I reach for.

MASCARA

L'Oreal Lash Paradise in Waterproof, when I find a mascara I love I stick with it, I started with the original version and having oily eyelids it was not great for me, the waterproof version although harder to remove stays curled and gives me incredible length and volume.

Essence Lash Extension, a mascara that contains fibres that lengthen your lashes, this is incredibly affordable and gives my lashes a wow look! It's waterproof and does not budge, a firm favourite I have discovered this year!

Hopefully, you got to the end of this, I have linked any reviews that I have done of the products. What has been your favourites this year? Skincare version to come.......

Until next time!

  3. The ABH Soft Glam palette is my all time favourite eyeshadow palette now. I just think the quality of the shadows is far better than anything else I've tried and I love the shades as well.

  4. I have been considering to invest in some CT lipsticks lately. Do you think they are nourishing enough for dry lips? Thanks for the advice!
