THE HIGH AND LOW OF LIQUID LIPSTICKS

I've tried a few liquid lipsticks since it became a huge hype and have collected quite a collection. Most of these are affordable liquid lipsticks on the market and there are much more that I am wanting to try. Today I'm going to be talking about the good and bad liquid lipsticks in all sorts of formula that I have tried so far, rating them out of 5.

COLLECTION VELVET KISS MOISTURISING LIP CREAM | £2.99 | 4/5
This was one of the first lip creams on the market that was launched a few years ago, they have a velvet cream formula which makes it really easy to apply especially with the simple doe foot applicator. It has a buildable formula and matte finish and is really affordable. They only have a limited colour selection but they wear comfortably on the lips.

NYX SOFT MATTE LIP CREME | £6 | 3/5
The SMLC are one of the most popular lip creams at the drugstore with its affordability and huge and unique colour selection. This is another cream lipstick and has a matte finish. I personally find the formula quite drying especially if you work in an air con environment which enhances lines of your lips, this lasts about 3- 4 and wears off patchy. I find it to be uncomfortable and even drier when worn throughout the day and if I do wear these I apply a lip gloss on top.

NYX LIP LINGERIE | £6.50 | 2/5
Remember when everyone was talking about the Lip Lingeries? These are a liquid formula with a matte finish. I was so excited when I got mine but they are a huge disappointment which is why I have gotten rid of mine, I did a whole review of these here and they are just so drying from the first swipe. I found this to be uncomfortable and made my lips shrivel up which cracks and enhances your lines on your lip.

NYX LIQUID SUEDE CREAM LIPSTICK | £6.50 | 4/5
This collection has a beautiful colour range and claims to have a moisturising formula. This is a cream liquid lipstick and has a flat applicator. They have a matte finish and does not completely dry leaving a slightly tacky feeling which makes this liquid lipstick moisturising and comfortable to wear throughout the day. I really love this formula but over time it has a fishy/manufactured scent since it expires within 6 months. I have stopped using this but I won't hesitate to purchase again.

OFRA LONG LASTING LIQUID LIPSTICK | £11 | 3/5
The Ofra liquid lipsticks have a creamy mousse formula and doe foot applicator. They have a really strong cupcake scent which really puts me off wearing this since it gives me a headache however it is more moisturising in terms on being a matte finish. This lasts on me for about 4 hours and is easy to reapply.

GERARD COSMETICS HYDRA MATTE LIQUID LIPSTICK | £11 | 5/5
These have a matte finish and an extremely liquidy formula, this is really pigmented and you only need on layer for a fully opaque finish. These are so comfortable to wear and reapply. These last until I eat oily foods and is one of my favourite liquid lipstick formulas.

KAT VON D EVERLASTING LIQUID LIPSTICKS | £17 | 3.5/5
One of the most hyped up liquid lipsticks on the market. This has a long wand with a doe foot applicator, They have a beautiful colour selection but I find the colours to be inconsistent. I had Lolita and it just looked so patchy on me. These are comfortable to wear but I reach for my Colourpop liquid lipsticks over these. I find the wand to be too long for a good precise application, therefore, prefer the mini size of these.

COLOURPOP ULTRA MATTE LIP | $6 | 4/5
The Colourpop liquid lipsticks took the beauty world by storm, the affordability is unbelievable especially for the quality. These are a little hard to get a hold of since it is based on America and customs charges are ridiculous if you get hit. I tend to use a mail forwarding service which I talked about in this post.  The UML is not my favourite formula since I find it dry but the colour is very opaque with one swipe. This has a mousse formula and the UML are all matte. I find that these last really long on my lips until you eat but I find it a pain to reapply since you need to reapply the whole thing otherwise it will become patchy.

COLOUR POP ULTRA SATIN LIP | $6 | 5/5
The USL looks matte but has a slightly tacky texture which makes it comfortable to wear on the lips all day. They are really easy to apply and reapply with the simple doe foot applicator but they do transfer when you eat or drink. There is a huge colour collection like their UML and I am always tempted to buy more. my huge colour pop collection can be seen here and here.

BOURJOIS PAIRS ROUGE EDITION VELVET LIPSTICK | £8.99 | 4/5
These have a creamy mousse formula and dries down to a semi-matte finish. They are comfortable to wear and reapply but I always find the colour to be much darker when applied. I had Happy Nude Year which is a pink nude but it looks bright pink on my lips. I did purchase a different colour Beau Brun but again the colour was soo much darker and I knew I would not reach for it. They swatch differently on you hand so do expect it to be darker on your lips if you have pigmented lips.

MILANI AMORE MATTE LIP CREAM | £9.99 | 4/5
The Milani lipsticks have a mousse formula and dry down to a semi-matte finish. It leaves a slightly tacky feeling which makes it moisturising and comfortable to wear on the lips. It has a strong strawberry scent which wears off. They are comfortable and not talked about much.

RIRE LIP MANICURE ROUGE HIGHFIX | £6.72 | 4/5
Rire is a Korean brand that I received in my YesStyle Beauty Box, the colours I have is beautiful and is a thick liquid formula. This dries down to a matte finish and becomes a little dry throughout the day. The packaging is very cute and has a heart shaped applicator but I find it difficult to be precise and the wand can grab a lot of product.

Overall my favourite liquid lipstick to date is the Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip and the Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Liquid Lipsticks, I hope you found this helpful and I'm sure I will have more liquid lipsticks to share in the future.

Until next time!

  1. I have one of the Collection lipsticks and although I can't remember the shade name, it is so lovely. I've not tried the NYX ones as I have never really seen a shade quite right for me.

  3. Oooh Calypso and Double Dare are so pretty! I don't really have many liquid lipsticks but I do have a couple from Kat Von D and Rimmel London that I really love using.

  4. Ooh love this post! I haven't tried all of these, but I've tried the nyx ones and the one Bourjois. I agree with the NYX lip cremes, I really wanted to like them but it does dry patchy. I still wear it but with a good balm underneath and a gloss on top!

  6. I am probably the only person who hates nyx soft matte lip cream solely for the reason that they don't last on my lips at all, not even a whole hour. I got 4-5 of these the colours are great but the nude ones barely even last for 15 mins :(
